At restaurants and cafés

주세요 is one of the most useful travel patterns. Put the thing you want before it. For a simple order, you often do not need to build a longer sentence.

물 주세요.Water, please.
이거 하나 주세요.One of these, please.
안 매운 거 있어요?Do you have something that isn’t spicy?

Getting around

Location questions become much easier when you reuse 어디예요? and 어디에 있어요? For taxis, a destination followed by 가 주세요 is a useful polite request.

화장실이 어디예요?Where is the restroom?
서울역에 가 주세요.Please take me to Seoul Station.
여기에서 내려 주세요.Please let me off here.

Shopping and quick help

Short questions are normal. You do not need to translate ‘Could you please tell me…’ word for word to sound polite in Korean; the speech ending already carries politeness.

이거 얼마예요?How much is this?
카드 돼요?Can I pay by card?
도와주세요.Please help me.

Food restrictions and changes

For preferences, ingredient + 빼 주세요 asks for an ingredient to be left out. A medical allergy is more serious, so state 알레르기가 있어요 clearly and confirm that the staff understood. A phrase guide can help you communicate, but it cannot guarantee that a kitchen is free from cross-contact.

양파 빼 주세요.Please leave out the onions.
땅콩 알레르기가 있어요.I have a peanut allergy.
돼지고기 못 먹어요.I can’t eat pork.

When you do not understand

You do not need to pretend you understood. Asking for slower speech, repetition, or written information is both polite and practical. Keep one or two repair phrases ready before a trip.

천천히 말해 주세요.Please speak slowly.
다시 말해 주세요.Please say that again.
적어 주세요.Please write it down.
